April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land,

is what T.S. Eliot had to say about it, anyway, which is one of the ways you can tell that T.S. Eliot was maybe not as focused on nonprofit fundraising, advocacy, and marketing as we might have liked.

Because along with the lilacs being bred out of the dead land, and along with the mixing of memory and desire, along with all of that, consider:

  • April is not nearly as anxiety-inducing as the stretch between Giving Tuesday and the December 31 fundraising deadline.
  • Which month is cruellest largely depends on your organization’s fiscal calendar.
  • April is National Poetry Month.
  • April is when we are able to share our annual M+R Benchmarks Study.

So yeah, a time of year when we get to take a close look at results across dozens of nonprofit programs, identify topline trends and detailed data, and share all those findings with you — that’s the cruellest month? Please.

The M+R Benchmarks Study* will be released on Tuesday, April 22. As always, this year’s study will include a truly epic amount of data on advertising, email, mobile messaging, social media, web performance, and more.

Come read along as we explore nonprofit digital programs measured out not in coffee spoons, but in views and impressions, clicks and conversions. Let us go then, you and I:

  • Our virtual launch on April 22, 1–2:30pm ET. RSVP on Zoom here!
  • Release Party on April 22 at Busboys and Poets
Join us in the Langston Room at Busboys and Poets (2021 14th St, NW, Washington, DC) for a live reading of the data from 4–5pm, followed by drinks, some icebox plums, and a chance to rub elbow patches with the M+R team. RSVP here!
  • NYC Party on May 7 at Poets House — live reading from 4–5pm; party from 5–7pm | 10 River Terrace, New York, NY. RSVP here!

We can’t wait to share this year’s study, but that’s about all we have to say for now. Time to come up with a graceful way to end things.

Oh right!

*UK and Ireland friends: this is the launch of the global study. The UK/Ireland edition will be out later this summer!
